RCB returned to winning ways after a dominating 24-run victory over Punjab Kings. Kohli led RCB in place of Faf du Plessis. The former South Africa captain only batted in the match and was unable to field. This win takes RCB to 5th place and PBKS remain in 7th position. Faf and Kohli leading the way
Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli were sent to bat in the first innings. They both led RCB’s charge and scored a partnership of 137 runs. Kohli was the first one to get dismissed on 59 of 47 balls. Faf went on to make 84 runs from 56 balls.
Punjab bowlers applying the brake
Harpreet Brar gave the first breakthrough in the 17th over. He dismissed Kohli in the 1st ball of the over. Kohli’s dismissal was followed by Maxwell’s wicket on the very next ball. Nathan Ellis took another wicket in the next over. He dismissed Du Plessis. Ashdeep Singh dismissed DK on the final ball of the 19th over. RCB ended the innings with 174 runs.
The home team struggles without Shikhar
Punjab Kings made a poor start to their innings. Atharva Taide was sent to the pavilion on the second ball of the match on 4 runs. Matt Short lost his wicket in the third over and Liam Livingstone’s wicket was dismissed in the very next over. Harpreet Singh Bhatia and Sam Curran’s wicket left PBKS at 76/5 in 9.5 overs.
Pradhsimran’s impact and Jitesh’s cameo
Punjab Kings were losing wickets at one end and Prabhsimran was leading the charge from the other end. The impact sub scored 46 of 30 balls before getting dismissed in the 12th over. Jitesh Sharma joined him after they lost 5-wickets. He scored 41 runs from 27 balls.
Siraj takes the purple cap
Mohammad Siraj gave an early breakthrough. This was followed by a wicket in his second over. He came in late for the 18th over and took 2 wickets in the over. Siraj dismissed Taide, Livingstone, Brar, and Ellis in the innings. Wanindu Hasaranga took 2 wickets.
RCB won the match comfortably at the end by 24 runs. PBKS were dismissed with 10 balls remaining. Bangalore faces Rajasthan and Punjab will play against MI in their next matches.
