Rohit Sharma scored a half-century to take Mumbai Indians over the line against Delhi Capitals. The five times champions won their first match of the 2023 edition. Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, remain at the bottom of the table and have suffered their fourth consecutive loss. Both teams played a last-ball thriller and here is a recap of how the match was played between the two teams.

DC off to a decent start
Delhi Capitals were sent to bat in the first innings. David Warner and Prithvi Shaw opened the innings. DC were 33-1 in 3.4 and on came Manish Pandey. The 33-year-old scored 26 runs before giving his wicket. Warner was still at the crease on 28 runs.
Chalwa- the game changer
Piyush Chawla was introduced to the attack soon after the powerplay. The former Indian spinner took Pandey’s wicket in just his second over. This allowed Riley Meredith to take a wicket from the other end. Chawla then used his googly to dismiss Rovman Powell in his third over and Lalit Yadav in his fourth over. He finished with the figures of 3 for 22 in his four overs. Delhi were 103 for 5 when his spell ended.
Axar’s maiden IPL half-century
The in-form Indian international scored his maiden half-century in IPL and took his side to a respectable total. Axar scored 54 runs from just 25 balls. He hit 4 fours and 5 sixes in the match.
Warner’s stay at the Crease
David Warner was unable to match his overall strike rate of 139.6 in this match. The Aussie opener scored 51 runs from 47 balls. This was his third fifty in the IPL 2023. Warner was unable to time the ball like he used to. However, this inning had a great contribution to the total.
Aussie duo shutting the door towards the end
Jason Behrendorff and Riley Meredith were given the duties of bowling in the death overs. Both were expensive in their first death overs and gave away 15 and 14 runs. Behrendorff took three wickets in the 19th over and Meredith chipped in with 1 wicket to reduce Delhi Capitals to 172 runs in 19.4 overs.
Second innings- MI’s best start in IPL 2023
Rohit Sharma took on the DC bowlers along with Ishan Kishan and gave their side an opening partnership of 71 runs in 7.3 overs. Ishan Kishan was eventually run-out due to a mixup for 31 runs.
Tilak continues his good run
Tilak Verma joined Rohit Sharma at the crease. The veteran was playing on 39 runs. Verma continued his good run by scoring 41 runs in 29 balls and hitting 4 sixes.
Mukesh Kumar contributes to Surya’s poor run
After getting hit for 4, 6 and 6 in the first three balls of the 16th over, Mukesh Kumar took Tilak Verma’s wicket on the 5th ball. He then dismissed Surya Kumar Yadav for a first-ball duck. The Indian T20 specialist earlier dropped a catch in the match. Rohit was dismissed by Mustafizur Rahman for 65 runs.
Another Aussie duo provides the finishing touch
Tim David came in as an impact substitute and was joined by fellow Australian, Cameron Green. David played a knock of 13 runs and Green scored quickfire 17 runs to take their side over the line on the last ball of the match. Anrich Nortje was given the final over and he almost defended five runs by bowling some superb yorkers.
Mumbai Indians kept their nerve and won their first match of the season. This was a last-ball thriller.
